Toolverge

GST Calculator

GST (Goods and Services Tax) is a value-added tax applied on top of a good or service's price in India and several other countries. Toolverge computes it two ways: adding GST to a base amount to get the total a customer pays, or working backward from a GST-inclusive total to find the original base amount and the tax portion. Either direction also splits the GST amount evenly into CGST and SGST, the common intra-state tax structure.

Total (with GST)

1,180.00

Base 1,000.00 + GST 180.00

CGST 90.00 · SGST 90.00

How it works

  1. Choose whether your amount is before GST (exclusive) or already includes GST (inclusive).
  2. Enter the amount and pick a GST rate (5/12/18/28%) or enter a custom rate.
  3. Read the total, GST amount, and the CGST/SGST split on the tape.

Formula exclusive: GST = amount×rate/100, total = amount+GST; inclusive: base = total/(1+rate/100), GST = total−base; CGST=SGST=GST/2

Frequently asked questions

How do I calculate GST on an amount?

Multiply the base amount by the GST rate and divide by 100. Example: 18% GST on 1000 is 180, for a total of 1180.

How do I remove GST from a total that already includes it?

Divide the inclusive total by (1 + rate/100) to get the base amount, then subtract the base from the total to get the GST amount.

What is the difference between CGST and SGST?

For an intra-state sale, the GST amount is split evenly between Central GST (CGST) and State GST (SGST), each at half the total GST rate.

What GST rates does this calculator support?

The common slabs of 5%, 12%, 18%, and 28% are one click away, and you can also enter any custom rate.

Is this calculator specific to one country's GST rules?

The math is a generic percentage-based GST/VAT calculation; always confirm the exact rate and rules for your jurisdiction and invoice type.
