Toolverge

Ideal Weight Calculator

An ideal weight calculator estimates a reasonable target body weight from height and gender. No single formula is authoritative, so Toolverge computes all four classic ones — Devine, Robinson, Miller, and Hamwi — and averages them into one headline number, the same approach used by most clinical reference calculators.

Gender

Average ideal weight

70.0 kg

Devine: 70.5 · Robinson: 68.9 · Miller: 68.7 · Hamwi: 72.0 kg

How it works

  1. Choose your gender.
  2. Enter your height in centimeters.
  3. Read the average ideal weight, plus all four individual formula results, on the tape.

Formula Devine (male): 50 + 2.3 × (height in inches − 60); each formula uses a different base weight and per-inch coefficient by gender.

Frequently asked questions

Which formula is most accurate?

None is definitively "correct" — they were each derived from different reference populations decades apart. Averaging all four, as this tool does, is a common way to avoid over-trusting any single one.

Does this account for muscle mass or body frame?

No — these formulas use height alone. A muscular or large-framed person may reasonably weigh more than the estimate without carrying excess fat.

What is the Devine formula used for?

It’s widely used in medicine for drug-dosing calculations, not just as a general "ideal weight" reference.

Why does the formula subtract 60 inches?

Each formula sets a base weight at exactly 5 feet (60 inches) tall, then adds a fixed amount per inch above that.

Is this medical advice?

No — it’s a general estimate. Talk to a doctor or dietitian about a healthy weight for your specific body.
